If you are experiencing issues connecting your Google Drive account or accessing files, please review the following troubleshooting steps. These cover common scenarios ranging from browser conflicts to organizational security settings.
Connection & Browser Issues
The login window does not appear or closes immediately
Pop-up Blockers Ensure your browser is not blocking pop-up windows for the Awarded AI application. Check your browser settings and add Awarded AI as an allowed site.
Browser Extensions Extensions such as AdBlock or privacy tools can interfere with the OAuth authentication flow. Try connecting using an Incognito or Private browsing window to rule out extension conflicts.
Multiple Google Accounts If you are signed into multiple Google accounts in the same browser, Google may default to the wrong one. Sign out of all accounts or use an Incognito window to ensure you are selecting the correct workspace account.
Administrative Security Blocks (Forbidden or Unauthorized)
If users can sign in but receive an "Unauthorized" or "Forbidden (403)" error when using the integration, a Google Workspace security policy is likely blocking Awarded AI from reading data.
Please have your Google Workspace Super Admin perform the following three checks in the Google Admin Console.
1. Enable the Drive SDK (Required)
If the Drive SDK is disabled, third-party apps cannot use the Drive API even if the user has personally consented.
Navigate to Apps > Google Workspace > Drive and Docs.
Click Features and Applications.
Locate the Drive SDK section.
Ensure "Allow users to access Google Drive with the Drive SDK API" is turned ON.
2. Add Awarded AI to the "Trusted" List (Required)
This is the most common fix. Because Awarded AI uses restricted scopes (such as drive.readonly), Google blocks access by default until an admin explicitly marks the app as trusted.
Log in to the Google Admin Console.
Navigate to Security > Access and data control > API controls.
Under App access control, click Manage Third-Party App Access.
Click Add app and select OAuth App Name or Client ID.
Search for "Awarded.AI" and click Search.
Hover over the app in the results and click Select.
Check the box for your top-level Organizational Unit (to apply to all users) and click Next.
Under "Access to Google Data", select Trusted.
Why Trusted? Trusted status bypasses restrictions on reading Drive files, which is required for the integration to function.
Click Configure or Finish.
3. Exempt from Context-Aware Access (Advanced)
If your organization uses Context-Aware Access policies — such as blocking access outside a corporate VPN — you must exempt Awarded AI to allow it to run from the cloud.
Navigate to Security > Access and data control > API controls > Manage Third-Party App Access.
Click on Awarded AI in the app list to view its settings.
Expand the Access to Google Data section.
Check the box labeled "Exempt from having API access blocked by Context-Aware Access levels".
Click Save.
Shared Drive & File-Specific Issues
The connection works, but specific files or folders are missing
Shared Drive Access If the missing file is in a Shared Drive (formerly Team Drive), verify that your account has at least Viewer access to that specific drive.
Download Restrictions Some Shared Drives have a setting that restricts viewers and commenters from downloading, printing, or copying files. If this setting is disabled by a Drive Manager, Awarded AI may be unable to retrieve the file content even if it can detect the file's existence.
Externally Owned Files If a file is owned by a user outside your organization and shared with you, the owner's sharing settings may prevent third-party apps from accessing it. In this case, ask the file owner to review their sharing permissions.
