Not sure where to start? These use cases show how GovCon teams put Market Intelligence to work, from early capture through pricing. Each one lists who it's for, the modules you'll use, and the steps to follow.

Capture and business development

Size up a recompete before you pursue

  • Who it's for: Capture managers

  • Modules: Market Analysis, Agencies, Awards

  • You'll walk away with: The agency's spend trend, the incumbent, and a sense of whether the work is growing or shrinking.

  1. In Market Analysis, filter to the funding agency and the NAICS or PSC codes for the requirement.

  2. Set the timeframe to the last three to five years and review the spend trend.

  3. In Awards, find the current contract to confirm the incumbent, value, and period of performance.

  4. In Agencies, check which contract vehicles the agency uses for this kind of work.

  5. Bring what you learned into your bid/no-bid discussion.

Map the competitive field at a target agency

  • Who it's for: BD leaders

  • Modules: Agencies, Awardees

  • You'll walk away with: A short list of the companies that win most often at your target agency, and how they win.

  1. In Agencies, open your target agency or sub-agency.

  2. Review the top vendors and the vehicles they use.

  3. Open each top vendor in Awardees to see their award history, other agencies they work with, and parent/subsidiary relationships.

  4. Note where competitors are strong and where there may be room for you.

Proposal, pricing, and teaming

Benchmark labor rates before you price

  • Who it's for: Proposal and pricing teams

  • Modules: Labor Categories

  • You'll walk away with: A ceiling-rate benchmark for each labor category in your price volume.

  1. In Labor Categories, search for each labor category in your proposal.

  2. Compare ceiling rates across awarded contracts.

  3. Remember that ceilings are not-to-exceed. Actual billed rates often run 10 to 20 percent lower, so use these as a benchmark, not a target.

Find and vet a teaming partner

  • Who it's for: BD and capture teams building a team

  • Modules: Agencies, Awardees, Awards

  • You'll walk away with: A shortlist of potential partners with relevant past performance at your target agency.

  1. In Agencies, open the target agency and review its top vendors in your NAICS or PSC.

  2. Open promising companies in Awardees to review their award history and the vehicles they use.

  3. Check parent/subsidiary relationships to avoid surprises.

  4. Use Awards to confirm their past performance on similar work.

Growth planning and AI Chat

Spot growing markets for strategic planning

  • Who it's for: Growth and executive leaders

  • Modules: Market Analysis

  • You'll walk away with: A view of where federal spend in your NAICS or PSC codes is growing, and which agencies are driving it.

  1. In Market Analysis, filter to your core NAICS or PSC codes.

  2. Review spend over time to see which areas are growing or declining.

  3. Break spend down by agency and set-aside to find where your company is best positioned.

  4. Use what you find to set target agencies for the year ahead.

Pair AI Chat with Market Intelligence

  • Who it's for: Anyone who wants a quick answer first, then the detail

  • Modules: AI Chat, then any Market Intelligence module

  • You'll walk away with: A fast first read on a market question, backed up by the full data.

  1. Ask a market question in AI Chat. For example: "Which companies have won the most cybersecurity work at the Department of Veterans Affairs over the last three years?"

  2. Review the answer and note the filters it used, such as agency, NAICS, and timeframe.

  3. Recreate those filters in Market Intelligence to explore the full results.
